Flores holidays – most romantic place on earth?

Flores is an island in the Azores and one of our favourite places on earth (alongside Knoydart and Stewart Island NZ!). The overwhelming sense of tranquillity and remoteness never quite leaves you and the sunsets are breathtaking. A Flores holiday should definitely be on your bucket list.

Its incomparable beauty can be perceived in its different geological structure, jagged terrain, stunning flora and wonderful mountain lakes. Waterfalls plunge down green cliffs into the ocean, the landscape has deep creases formed by eons of volcanic activity, and tiny whitewashed villages nestle on the coastal plains.

What makes a Flores holiday so special?

On the west coast of the island you will discover the lovely village of Cuada. Situated on a small plateau near the coast, the village was almost abandoned during the 1960’s as people emigrated to the US, leaving a virtual ghost town.

Cuada was brought back to life by its dedicated owners and now offers lovely self catering cottage accommodation. The minimum stay period is three nights but trust me, you will want to stay longer.
