The most famous festival in Cape Verde, Carnival, is rocking today.
Held on most islands, the streets are full of people of all ages in fancy dress and the atmosphere is just electrifying. Mindelo on the island of Sao Vicente has the biggest celebration by far with float after float passing through the streets and flamboyantly dressed dancers moving to the lilt of the famous Cape Verdean music. Tens of thousands of people take part in Carnival in Mindelo and local districts compete to win the coveted accolade of best street float.
The main day is today, March 4th, but there have been parties and parades going on since Friday and it all wraps up tomorrow for another year.
