Postcards From Sri Lanka | A memorable Family Holiday
Ian Coates (CEO): My sister-in-law approached us to see if we could help with an extended family adventure to Sri Lanka. She’d heard me talk about the island on several occasions, due to its Portuguese heritage, and knew we might have a few contacts there.
With the help of our good friend Suren Basnayake, in Colombo, we were able to help them arrange a memorable family holiday. Here are some snippets from the postcards they sent us:
A Tuk Tuk Tour through colombo
Dear Team Archipelago,
After months of talking and planning, we’ve now arrived in Sri Lanka for our 4-week family adventure.
The boys were up early (nothing new in that) and couldn’t contain themselves at the buffet breakfast. Both over faced themselves, probably thinking this was the last proper meal they’d be having!!
Our first adventure has been to whizz through the streets of Colombo on a Tuk Tuk tour….it was great fun and saw our first Buddhist temple at Gangaramaya.
Thanks for the advice

Weligama Bay – World Famous Surf Beaches
Dear Team Archipelago,
We left Colombo a few days ago by bus and have just spent a few days surfing at Weligama. Charlie thought Weligama was a wellie throwing game until he saw the surf shacks on the beach.
The weather was amazing, and it beats surfing on a winter’s day in Cornwall! Daddy hired a Tuk-Tuk yesterday, but it kept breaking down and now he has oil all over his best surf shorts. Tomorrow we’re going to head north to look for elephants and leopards.

Leopards and Elephants at Wilpattu National Park
Dear Team Archipelago,
We yesterday we went in jeeps to the Wilpattu National Park to look for leopards and elephants. Charlie saw the first elephant and I saw a leopard in a tree looking down at some monkeys – the monkeys soon ran away, which was good as we didn’t want to see it eat one.
Last night we stayed in some cool tents near the park and ours had a toilet and shower. We had dinner in the wild under the trees – it was amazing.
Thanks for finding this amazing place.

Why Sri Lanka?
Sri Lanka is a great fit for Archipelago Choice. It’s an island with a Portuguese heritage that is apparent when you see family names like ‘de Silva’. The island offers the perfect mix of history, culture, wildlife and fun activities, which has proven to be so popular with our clients over the years. We think its a the perfect fit for our travellers and we’re setting the wheels in motion to add it to our list of destinations.

Thinking of visiting Sri Lanka?
We’re very selective about the destinations we offer and focus on places where we have friends who can help us, where we’ve travelled to before, or where there is a Portuguese heritage.
We’re currently testing the water to see how much interest there is for Sri Lanka. We would love to hear from you if you’ve already been, or if you’re considering a visit.
