Scramble up to the highest peak – Pico d’Antonia (1392m) – on Santiago, surrounded by jagged peaks
Stand on on top of Cape Verde’s highest point and volcano – Pico de Fogo (2829m) – and scree run down
Walk up to Sao Vicente’s highest spot – Monte Verde (744m) – with excellent views of the neigbouring islands
Hike through alpine hills scattered with wildflowers to get to the top of Tope de Coroa (1979m) on Santo Antao
Always in the company of an English-speaking guide, your first walk starts on Santiago, the biggest island of the Cape Verde archipelago, to the oldest settlement Cidade Velha. Your first peak Pico d’Antonia is not the highest (1392m), may not be the highest summit you’ll get to, it will most likely be the hardest, because of its steepness.
Make sure you’re seated on the right-hand side of the plane when you fly to Fogo, as you’ll fly right past Pico do Fogo (2829m) and that looms over the massive crater of Cha das Caldeiras. You’ll first do a walk in the crater itself before you conquer this impressive active volcano (the highest of Cape Verde), which last erupted in 2014
On the third island – Sao Vicente – a six-hour walk from Mindelo will get you to the top of Monte Verde (744m), where on a clear day, you have clear views of neighbouring islands.
The last island, Santo Antão is a true walker’s paradise, with fertile steep and green valleys. From Cova crater, you follow a cobbled path into the stunning Paul Valley on your first day. You’ll explore another valley Cha das Pedras the next day and on the third day follow the rugged Pacific coastal walk from Cruzinha to Ponta do Sol.
Your last walk on this amazing walking holiday is the not often climbed Tope de Coroa (1979m) in the western part of the island. Surrounded by glowing hills often covered in little flowers, you could imagine you’re hiking in the Alps.
As this is a bespoke trip, you can shorten it, add rest days or pick the islands and walks you’re interested in. Just talk to us and we’ll customise your holiday.

If you enjoy music, then you’ll love the Hotel Oasis Atlantico Porto Grande Lobby Bar on a terrace overlooking the square. If you enjoy dancing, then guests have free access to the Syrius disco within the hotel building and open Wednesdays to Sundays.
Located in a remote elevated position 10km from Ribeira Grande on Santo Antao island, it’s only one hour’s drive from the ferry.
It’s full of traditional character and style made up of chalet buildings of stone and thatch and it feels like a mountain retreat being surrounded by stunning jagged ridges and lovely walks.
Pedracin has 32 rooms in stone chalets scattered on different levels across the landscaped hotel grounds, each joined by cobbled paths. They are simply furnished and have private bathrooms although hot water can be intermittent. This isn’t usually too much of an inconvenience given the warm daytime temperatures. Rooms can sleep up to three guests (2 adults) and have air conditioning and heating.
There is a good restaurant at Pedracin serving all meals and dramatic views.
