Today you have another guided tour, this time to Cidade Velha, the oldest settlement in Cape Verde. Here the guide will take you on a historical stroll down Rua Banana (one of the first Sub Saharan streets), the Nossa Senhora do Rosario Church and the marble pillar ‘Pelourinho’ (pillory) where slaves were punished.
After lunch (included), you’ll have the opportunity to visit the fortress overlooking the bay. The rest of the day is free to relax or explore more on your own.

Today you’ll be taken to the airport for your flight to São Vicente along a spectacular mountain road looking over to the highest peak on Santiago, Pico do Santo Antonio at 1392m.

Today your full day guided tour starts with a walking tour of Mindelo first visiting the fish market then the harbour, old customs house and Estrela square with its market stalls.

Walking is a great way to explore the islands, especially accompanied with one of our expert local guides. Walks vary from 2-6 hours some along cobbled paths linking villages, others follow the rugged coast and the most challenging route climbs Fogo volcano - topping out at 2,829m. With the third largest population of nesting loggerhead turtles, Cape Verde is perfect for turtle watching holidays. Most nest on the islands of Boavista and Sal between the months of July and October, and August is the main month for observations.
On both Boavista and Sal there are several small turtle conservation projects. You can pay a donation to visit their hatcheries and take a night patrol on the beach with a ranger.
Cape Verde is windsurf heaven, regularly hosting world class competitions including the world championships. With beaches with water only 1-2m deep, no currents and great swell, it's an ideal spot for windsurfers of all abilities.
Our guided rides on Sal follow white sand beaches, through aquamarine water and cross salt pans giving yet another perspective on the island. All rides vary in length and difficulty depending on ability and helmets are provided.
It’s within driving distance from the Serra Malagueta National Park with its spectacular valleys and mountain peaks.
On a clear day, you can often see Maio and it’s a great place to watch the sunset over Fogo island. It is however reached by an unsurfaced road which can be difficult to negotiate when it’s raining but the owners will come down to pick you up if you struggle.
The owners are Jean and Julia, a French – Cape Verdean couple who live at the Pousada and provide delicious Cape Verdean/French/Portuguese inspired meals for guests using homegrown produce and fresh fish and meat from Assomada. Everyone staying has their 2-course evening meal at the same time at a sociable communal dining table.
There are five rooms at the Pousada each with a different colour theme and furnished with luxurious bedding and cushions from France and stone floor tiles from Portugal.
