Kayaking on Derwent Water.
Ghyll scrambling in the Newlands Valley.
Climb Skiddaw with our resident guide.
Your home for the week is Keswick – the charming, historic market town nestled in the heart of the breath-taking northern fells. There’s plenty to see and do: the town has an unrivalled selection of independent cafes and restaurants, traditional Lakeland pubs, outdoor shops, the famous Keswick Pencil Museum, the Theatre by the Lake and the delightful Alhambra Cinema.
Keswick is also our home so we’re always close-by for advice during your stay.
The shores of Derwentwater are never more than a stone’s throw away. You’ll have a chance to cruise the lake on Derwent’s famous pleasure launches, returning to the water under your own steam by kayak later in the week. For the more adventurous, you’ll ascend Skiddaw with our resident walking guide and you’ll learn how to ghyll scramble: one of Lakeland’s most exciting outdoor pursuits.
As with all our holidays, you can tweak and change your Lake District Self-Catering Holiday – whether you’re travelling as a family, as a couple or with a group of friends. You can also add extra guided tours, spend a day mountain biking or swinging between the trees of the Whinlatter Forest Park.
Call our Keswick team on 017687 21040 for a chat today.
We’ll meet you on your arrival in Keswick to get you settled into your home for the week.. We’ll include a welcome pack, and we’ll show you the best places to shop for supplies and our favourite places to eat out.
We’ll take you on a short walking tour of Keswick – it’s a great way to learn the layout of the town. In the afternoon, you’ll head out for a cruise around Derwent Water, and in the evening we can pre-book tickets for a film at the Alhambra cinema or a show at the Theatre by the Lake.
Today you’ll climb Skiddaw with our resident guide (approximate walking time: 4-5 hours, walk distance: 11km, ascent: 750m, grade: moderate). You’ll have a stunning 360⁰ panoramic view of the Pennines, Scotland and the Solway Firth, the Isle of Man and Lakeland’s silhouetted peaks and valley.
We’ll leave today free so you can relax any aching muscles from yesterday’s walk. You might like to add a guided tour of Honister slate mine or the Lakes Whisky Distillery.
You’ll spend today kayaking on Derwent Water.
You could spend today walking and biking in the Whinlatter Forest Park.
For your final full day, you’ll head to the Newlands Valley for a ghyll scrambling session.
Time to head home.
